One of the more inspiring news stories of the mid-1990's was the enfranchisement of black South Africans brought about by South Africa's first free elections on April 26-29, 1994. |

Jim Laurie reported from Johannesburg on election day and from Pretoria on the inauguration day
of Nelson Mandela. The optimism of that period in South Africa was infectious as this country so
long dominated by white power finally achieved the majority rule it so long deserved and desired. |
