Indira Gandhi had been Prime Minister of India for nearly ten years when I met her.  That she sat down at all for an extensive interview with NBC's Meet the Press surprised me that summer of 1975.   On June 26th, she, through the office of the President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, had declared a "State of Emergency" to end a "lawless and chaotic" situation. She brought the nation under direct centralized rule: "President's Rule."  It was a critical time for Indian democracy and sitting down with Mrs Gandhi was a rare opportunity.   READ MORE COMING SOON
